Das Playstation 3 Magazin "PSM3" hat in ihrer aktuellen Ausgabe die Klassen in Battlefield 3 anhand einer Grafik erläutert. Es werden 4 Klassen vorhanden sein und jede Klasse erhält gewöhnlich eine spezielle Aufgabe. Zudem wurden weitere Screenshots veröffentlicht. In BF3 wird es keinen Sanitäter mehr geben. Diese Aufgabe übernimmt die Klasse Assault. Dieser verfügt über einen Defribrilator, Med Kit und standardmäßig eine M16. Der Engineer besitzt einen Raketenwerfer, ein Werkzeug zum Reparieren der Fahrzeuge und eine M4. Die Support-Klasse hat dagegen ein MG und ein Ammo Kit. Als 4. Klasse gibt es noch den Recon.
